Have you ever tried kombucha? For me, it was love at first (weird) sip! Something about the tart vinegar/alcohol taste had me hooked from the get go (even before I knew of it's probiotic and health benefits). For years I treated myself every so often, but at anywhere from $3-6 per 16 ounce bottle, it isn't really in my budget to drink it every day. So… a few years ago I started brewing it myself (although I can only do it in the summer because my house is too cold in the winter). At less than a dollar for a gallon of home-made kombucha (and the weird science experiment vibe that comes with brewing it) home-made can't be beat! This summer's batches are going strong (despite a couple early fails… take it from me, you have to follow ALL the directions). If you want to give it a try there is enough summer left for you to get some going and enjoy your very own - complete with cute, slimy baby scobys that look like jellyfish.
If you have no idea what I'm talking about and I intrigued you with jellyfish scoby... start here.
If you want the recipe I use go here.
And this is a nice video with visuals that are helpful too.
